It's official. I'm old.
It was the first day of middle school for my baby monkey today.
No more elementary school.
No more kisses out the door.
No more hugs goodbye at the bus stop.
She's no baby, she's a big girl now.
(weep)
It was like standing at the bus stop with a bunch of strangers.
Only one other parent (besides me) threw caution to the wind and waited it out till by bus came...much to the shame of my monkeys.
I had no one to high five after the bus had left.
Another social outlet gone.
(sniff)
This sucks.
BTW, my oldest monkey didn't even acknowledge leaving the house this morning, so she was either wearing too much make-up or flip-flops. Or both.

We sent our youngest off to Kindergarten today, so I'm feeling a bit of your pain!
I hear ya. Tweenie, now 14, just started high school. It was every bit as tough as dropping her off on the first day of kindergarten...teary the whole way to work! My boy started a new school for grade 5, walked right in without so much as a kiss or hug. Breaks a momma's heart!
Way too fast, Girlfriend. Totally empathize with you. (Sniffing right alongside ya!)
When your kids moan in anguish when you tell them you want to walk them to the bus stop, it's not a good sign.
Then when your oldest COMPLETELY ignores you when she gets off the bus and rolls her eyes...you feel old.
Already my 1st grader runs out the door to meet her freind at the end of the driveaway!
Poor Monkey Girl.
My oldest began high school this week. That brings a whole new set of heartaches with the boy/girl discovery phase. While I miss having little ones, mine still give me hugs and seek advice.
FF,
I still get hugs and kisses from my 5th grader, but my 10th grader acts like I have the swine flu.
(sigh)
Seeks advice?
In an alternative universe somewhere out there is a 16 yr. old daughter who asks me for advice...but not in my universe.
I get a lot of eye rolls, sighs, and an occasional mumble.
Maybe by the time she's 30 she'll realize she had the coolest mom, but I'm not holding my breath.
Oops! Didn't mean to hit that button, but got hit by a Nerf dart...gotta love Saturday morning.
I am in the same boat, MG, with 5th grader a lovebug and 9th grader eye-rolls. They both will, one day, realize what a smart, cool mom they were lucky enough to have.
My "I am old" moments for the week:
Former students come back, 21 years old. One in college, the other a mom herself. Another wonderful young teacher at a TGIF tells us how old her mom is. I am 4 years younger. Crap. And nowhere near retirement!
A nerf dart?
Definitely Saturday morning.
Thanks for all the support MommaP!!
Awwwwww Well. . . just think, you're that much closer to granchildren! And THEY will always want to kiss and hug thier gramma!
Helping? Probably not, I'm an idiot. But good luck :)
Isn't it a rough road to travel? This is my last, final, kaput, finito, year of sending a child off to school (not counting college of course). Thought I'd be jumping for joy, but it's incredibly sad. Exciting for her but realizing my life has zipped bye & my real parenting is almost complete. I know, we all parent till we no longer draw a breath, but not the same...whoa is me....
Thinking about you Monkey Girl!!
uggh! my monkeys just started back preschool and I'm already lamenting over the first day of kindergarten two years away. great post.
