It's summer!! Oh shit, I have to be a parent...

Today is the beginning of our first official full week of summer!! Yippee!! (for those of you who are confused...we had 4 snow days to make up at the end of the school year)

I had all these plans of working with the girls Monday thru Friday from 9am to 10am each morning. Keeping school fresh in their minds, with some reading and worksheets. I'd even been preparing them for this summer school 'work' for over a month..."Remember Girls, Monday thru Friday from 9am to 10am we're going to be studying!!".

Of course, the operative word being had.

As I barely opened half an eyelid at 8:47am this morning, I knew I was totally screwed.

  1. The dog was dancing around the kitchen because no one had taken him out to pee.
  2. One of the cats had an 'accident' in my youngest's bedroom because someone had closed the bathroom door downstairs...oops.
  3. Nothing but the will of God was going to separate me from my bed.
We definitely weren't off to a great start.

So I made an official parental decision at 8:48am this morning...

"Effective immediately, Mommy's Summer School will not be starting until Mommy is good and damn ready!"

There were cheers heard all around...including my own.

I'm such a shitty mom.

Hi! I got the note you left me over at Jennifer's blog. I live in Texas now and check for ticks regularly. Luckily I've only seen 1 and it wasn't attached to me. It was on the couch next to me. His life was shortened because of it.

I'm really curious who the doctor is who used to practice in Eastern WA and where he practiced. Now you have me wondering about the tick thing. You can't believe anyone these days. You can email me at 86wildchild at sbcglobal dot net. I am positive I did not have Lyme when I left for college, though. Now that my immune system is up and running maybe I should have a new western blot done and see what my markers are like. That might give us an indication of how long I've had it.

Thanks for the info! :-)

Hey, I hear ya. Plenty of time ahead. Besides, which do you think will be fonder memories years from now? We got to goof off, sleep in and be free and have fun with mom all summer, or, we got to study for an hour with mom to prepare for the coming school year? You're a great mom, wiht a lot of demands like the rest of us. Summer school can wait. Taking the dog out to pee, and hearing a cheer like that from your kids, now that's a memory to keep.

I'm only working them 30 minutes, because that is all I can stand of their constant whining. Seriously, I am ready for school to start.

Kara,
Glad you got my message. I'm not sure how long ago he worked in eastern Washington, but my guess is it was awhile ago, as he has a pretty established practice here in the Seattle area. Really, I'd check for ticks anywhere I lived in the US, it's everywhere now.

MP,
Only reason I'm a little OCD about it this year is, my kid's brains turned to mush last summer.

C,
The whining hasn't started yet, but I know it's coming. Can't wait!

How many more days till school is back is session?

Too bad it's not like when we were kids. Back then me and my brother would take off early to hang out with our friends, and come home just in time for dinner. My parents probably saw less of us during the summer than they did the rest of the year.

just thinking of this idea makes you so not the shitty mom. summer is kicking my ass. I am almost considering going back to work. The whining at my place is almost deafening.
